Gambrills is a name used for two adjacent areas in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, within the Annapolis metro region: the unincorporated community of Gambrills and the Gambrills census-designated place (CDP). The area is named after Augustine Gambrill, a former plantation owner. The CDP spans a broad section of land that overlaps parts of Crofton, Waugh Chapel, and Odenton, and it sits near Davidsonville, Crownsville, Millersville, and Prince George’s County.
History
The original village of Gambrills was situated along Annapolis Road, about 2 miles (3 km) southeast of central Odenton. Today, the area is recognized as an unincorporated CDP. It is home to Whites Hall Farm, known as the birthplace and childhood home of Maryland native Johns Hopkins.
